I am so sad to have just heard that this man has left us, especially because it is 10 years almost to the day since I believe he saved my life, correctly diagnosing me with acquired ideopathic demyelenating polyneuropathy (or jelly legs as we called it because it was easier to say). He petitioned the drugs board at Frimley Park to allow me to receive immunoglobulin as a treatment, and brought it forward suddenly as he feared it was progressing towards my heart and lungs. He was a steady hand on the tiller as I slowly regained my health and returned to flying - and I am so glad that I was able to share with him that we had established a Wingman lounge at Frimley Park to support frontline NHS staff during the pandemic - a charity I founded and which was crewed by grounded aircrew.
To be able to thank someone for giving you back a life you were in danger of losing is a rare thing, and although I knew about his lymphoma, I didn’t know until today that it had beaten him. I owe this man everything, so all that is left to say is thank you from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of our entire family. You will never be forgotten.
